How do I find an apartment in Bangkok?

Quick answer

Decide on your station first, view several buildings in that area in one day, and expect to negotiate the deposit and contract length rather than the headline rent.

Most people start online, but listings move quickly and the best way to judge a Bangkok building is to walk into it. Pick your station, block out a day, and view four or five places in the same area back to back so you can compare noise, light, water pressure and how long the walk really takes.

Ask about what is included: internet, cleaning, juristic fees, and whether the electricity is charged at the government rate or a building rate. Short leases are possible but usually cost more per month. The neighbourhood guides are the fastest way to narrow down where to look.
